Though its seafaring history is substantial, and readily discovered at the Maritime Museum or Laboe Naval Memorial, there is a youthful vibe throughout the boulevards, squares and Holstenstraße – one of the longest shopping streets in Germany. There are also botanical gardens and historic monuments worth exploring too.
