If you are celebrating a birthday during your cruise, let us know
and we will present you with a birthday cake during dinner in the
main restaurants. Should you be celebrating a landmark birthday
or milestone anniversary, we will even provide a fantastic package
with our compliments. We also offer a range of celebration
packages, which may be purchased in advance. Treat a loved one
to a ‘welcome aboard’ surprise, or perhaps create a bespoke
package to suit your own special occasion.
What’s more, our smaller, friendlier ships offer the perfect setting
for the renewal of wedding vows. We’ll help you mark this special
occasion with a romantic ceremony on board, which includes a
bouquet and buttonhole, choice of framed portrait, single-tiered
celebration cake, a bottle of Champagne and a commemorative
certificate signed by the Captain.
To find out more, visit our website or contact our friendly Guest
Services team on 0800 0355 145.
Our spacious Suites come complete with a range of
complimentary benefits we call the Suite Dreams package.*
This includes a bottle of sparkling wine and a fresh fruit bowl on
arrival, and delicious canapés before dinner each day. There are
also luxury towels, bathrobes and slippers. Extras such as laundry
vouchers and free pressing for formal wear are sure to come in
handy too, particularly on longer voyages.
*Suite Dreams benefits are available on all cruises of three nights and above.
SWIMMING POOLS & JACUZZIS
Heated pools and Jacuzzis are available and open during key
activity hours. Since there are no lifeguards on duty, guests use
these facilities under their own supervision.
You can look out for spectacular sights of the night sky – such as
lunar eclipses, meteor showers and planets – using the
telescopes supplied on board.
Some ports require guests to go ashore via a tender. There are 25
steps from the ship to the tender (except for Braemar on which
there is a maximum of seven). Please ask about your particular
cruise at the time of booking. On safety grounds, wheelchair
users or those requiring more than minimal assistance to board
a tender will be unable to go ashore on these occasions.
In support of the nationwide Refill campaign, water refilling
stations have been installed across all our ocean ships. We
recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you on your
next Fred. Olsen cruise. In doing so, you’ll help prevent plastic
pollution from entering the world’s rivers, oceans and seas.
WHEELCHAIRS & REDUCED MOBILITY
We warmly welcome guests with disabilities and/or reduced
mobility necessitating the use of a wheelchair or scooter. That
said, travelling by sea is not ideally suited to those fully reliant
upon such a device or those unable to negotiate a stepped
gangway. Other than at our UK turnaround ports, an overhead
walkway or air-bridge is seldom available. This means there is
sometimes a requirement to use a stepped gangway to embark
and disembark the vessel. Subject to tides and local port
infrastructure, the angle of the gangway can be steep and
requires the negotiation of up to 40 steps.
For the safety of guests, and in compliance with International
Maritime Regulations, we must limit the number of guests who
would require assistance in the event of an emergency. This
capacity is set to ten for Black Watch, Boudicca and Braemar, while
for Balmoral, we can permit 16. We strongly recommend you are
accompanied by an able-bodied companion. On safety grounds,
devices weighing in excess of 25kg, that do not dismantle, cannot
be carried ashore unless we have the use of an overhead walkway/
air-bridge. Under no circumstances can Fred. Olsen staff carry or
lift guests to facilitate embarkation or disembarkation, either at
turnaround ports or at ports of call on the cruise.
All wheelchair/scooter-use must be pre-booked in
advance. Failure to do so may result in refusal at check-in. All
wheelchairs/scooters must be presented at check-in and not
passed to the luggage handlers with your cabin luggage.
At the time of booking, you will be asked to confirm that all
persons (excluding fully confined guests) can move around the
vessel in a safe and secure manner at all times. Guests unable to
comply with this requirement will be unable to travel, and failure
to comply with this policy could lead to the loss of the cruise
holiday and a total loss of all monies paid.
Guests bringing scooters on board may be restricted as to
what cabins they can book. Cabins indicated as ‘adapted for
wheelchair users’ have private facilities designed for wheelchair
users. While there are four adapted cabins on Braemar, space to
turn is limited, and therefore we do not recommend these cabins
to guests who are fully reliant on a wheelchair. Please note that
the Sun Decks on Boudicca and Black Watch are not served by a
guest lift. Guests will need to climb steps to access the Sun Deck.
Unless able to board a coach unaided, it will not be possible for
guests to participate in our organised Shore Tours programmes.
However, our Destination Experience Department may be able to
arrange private tours that offer adapted vehicles.
WiFi is available throughout the ship: simply connect to the ship’s
WiFi signal, register for the WiFi Portal and choose the desired
internet package, which will then be charged directly to your on
board account. For further information, contact Guest Services.
Please be aware that WiFi is subject to service operation and is
operated over a satellite connection – with speeds much slower
than you would experience at home.
