& the Baltic
Scandinavia & the Baltic
The collection of sailings shown on these pages encompass
eight proud nations, all with a distinct character. Each voyage
is carefully created to showcase the real essence of the region,
while the wide choice of departures offers an assortment of
perspectives as the seasons change. As well as providing a
friendlier atmosphere, our smaller ships take you closer to
the highlights in port, so in many cases you’re near to the
attractions the moment you step ashore.
Meticulously planned, the itineraries on the following pages are much more than
a simple tour of the sights. For instance, the 6th July firework celebrations in Fredericia,
the Estonia Song and Dance festivals and the North Sea Jazz Festival all add something
special to your time in port. You’ll experience an especially warm welcome in some
destinations with salutes and performances in traditional dress. Out-of-peak sailings
are always very popular, giving easier, less hectic views of the region’s historic cities,
and a cruise dedicated to the fabulous Christmas Markets rounds off a calendar
brimming with adventure.
Stockholm’s archipelago – one of the largest groups of islands in the world, Germany’s
picturesque Kiel Canal and the Norwegian Oslofjord present the standout natural
landscapes within this collection. The beauty of each can only be truly discovered if
the time is taken to cruise them. Grandeur and splendour come by way of the palaces,
cathedrals and castles of Copenhagen and St Petersburg. Further cultural heritage is
waiting in Tallinn’s fairytale, UNESCO-listed Old Town and Europe’s largest castle ruins
The mix of Neoclassical and Art Nouveau architecture in Helsinki, Riga, Malmö and
Oslo contrasts with Visby’s well-preserved 13th century city walls and Gothenburg’s
elegant network of 17th century canals – all of which are easy to explore. And the
delicious delights of Bruges’ Belgian chocolate and beer is matched by the treats on
offer at the Christmas Markets of the region.
A Fred. Olsen cruise to this remarkable region offers so much. From Fabergé, LEGO
and Edvard Munch’s The Scream to Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the Tivoli Gardens’
famous fairground rides, there’s something to tempt, whenever you choose to visit.
