For a wonderful start to the spring, Braemar will take you closer to the highlights
of Spanish and Portuguese destinations, docking in convenient locations so
that you can stroll into town. Historic landmarks, captivating scenery, fantastic
museums and more can be uncovered at leisure in La Coruña, Vigo, Avilés and
Lisbon. There’s also a memorable day on Madeira, where you’ll join the rest of
Fred. Olsen’s ocean-going fleet for the ‘Four Fred.s in Funchal’ event.

After a relaxing sail down from Southampton, the
first call is the stylish Galician city of La Coruña.
Perhaps you’ll be tempted by a day of exploration –
you’ll find a broad array of architecture, galleries and
historic landmarks, such as the ancient Tower of
Hercules, here. Alternatively, you could choose to
relax on the city’s beautiful beaches. From La Coruña
there’s also the opportunity to tour to Santiago de
Compostela, home to a truly magnificent cathedral.
Continuing south along Spanish shores, another
of Galicia’s charming cities awaits. Vigo is the
perfect place to indulge in a spot of sightseeing,
with its delightful Old Quarter – strewn with grand
façades and Gothic churches – and picturesque
bay, overlooked by a 17th century castle. You
could uncover it all and sample delicious tapas
at a local café as a reward.
Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, has attractions aplenty,
all waiting to be discovered during an overnight
stay. Architectural wonders and adorable districts
can be found within the heart of the city, and there’ll
be time to immerse yourself in the charms of Fado
music during the evening. Though Lisbon can
be explored on foot, taking a Tuk Tuk or tram
is a great way to see the sights. However you
choose to navigate the city, be sure to stop for
a delicious egg custard tart or two.
After your extended stay in Lisbon it’s on to
Madeira for the very special ‘Four Fred.s in
Funchal’ event. After docking alongside Balmoral,
Black Watch and Boudicca, you’ll be part of a
memorable day of celebration shared with crews
and fellow guests from all four ocean-going ships
in the Fred. Olsen fleet. There’ll be fantastic live
entertainment and specially prepared menus to
mark the occasion. Away from all the festivities,
there are opportunities to explore the island’s
botanical gardens and picturesque walking trails.
Back in Spain, your final call is Avilés, an excellent
start point for discovering and tasting traditional
Asturian cider at one of the many cider cellars.
The renowned Óscar Niemeyer International Centre
is a major site in this pretty city – with Braemar
docking alongside it, you’ll be perfectly placed to visit.
