This classic German itinerary combines scenic
and historic waterways with city exploration.
The pretty landscapes of the Kiel Canal are a
highlight, since Balmoral is one of the largest
ships able to make the transit. That’s not all:
Medieval architecture, quaint historic quarters
and the landmarks of Berlin – available on a
tour from Warnemünde – await you.

The scenic delights start with a transit through the Kiel Canal,
a bustling waterway carved through the countryside. Just sit
on deck and enjoy the view. A day in the handsome seaside
resort of Warnemünde comes next. Balmoral docks close to
the main attractions, including the historic lighthouse, which
gives splendid views over the town and the Baltic Sea.
Warnemünde is also the start point for tours to the attractionpacked
A second helping of the Kiel Canal precedes navigation of the
Elbe River into Hanseatic Hamburg. Sight of the towering Town
Hall is always a pleasure, while the ever-expanding Miniature
Wonderland functions as the world’s largest model train set.
Further afield lies the harrowing historic site of Bergen-Belsen.
Docking in Bremen via the specially-permitted route along the
River Weser – as opposed to coastal Bremerhaven which is
used by larger ships – makes it so much easier to experience
the highlights. You could opt perhaps for a walking tour and
take in a medley of architectural highlights, including the Town
Hall; Cathedral; Roland and Town Musicians statues; and the
medieval quarter, Schnoor.
