Specially timed to include an overnight stay in Cádiz during the city’s annual
carnival, this will be a unique exploration of Andalusia. Cádiz will be pulsing
with rows of colourful costumes, traditional music and live comedy – and
Fred. Olsen brings it all closer to you, with ample time to enjoy the fun and
festivities. The highlights don’t stop there; Malaga and Almería offer an array
of authentic Andalusian experiences too.
Carnival of Cádiz
You’re in for a rewarding adventure from the outset
of this 13-night cruise. Spending two days at sea to
start your holiday affords time for you to relax and
settle into life on board Black Watch, before Vigo
is the first stop on your itinerary. This gorgeous
Galician city has something for everyone – sun,
scenery and seafood – with the picturesque bay
a particular highlight. It’s also your gateway to the
Santiago de Compostela region.
Malaga provides you with your first taste of
Andalusian life. This fine destination overflows
with aesthetic and cultural treasures. Don’t miss
the Picasso Museum – which celebrates the life and
works of Malaga native Pablo Picasso – within the
city’s ‘mile of art’. Malaga is also the starting point
for tours to the breathtaking hilltop city of Ronda,
with its dramatic bridge over the El Tajo gorge.
The following morning you’ll arrive early into historic
Cádiz – the city considered to have invented tapas
– for the opportunity to experience all the excitement
and celebration of the city’s vibrant carnival. This is
one of Spain’s liveliest annual events, a fantastic
spectacle of music, dance, humour and colour.
You can enjoy this magical occasion with the
friendly locals and your fellow guests long into
the evening if you wish; Black Watch docks
here overnight and will be waiting for you when
you’re ready to retire to your room.
Almería, with its dramatic volcanic scenery,
whitewashed houses and ancient fortresses, will
then welcome you. Perhaps unwind with a day of
exploration in this pretty city; there are plenty of
attractions to uncover, such as the impressive
Alcazaba Fortress. Alternatively you could choose
to take advantage of the chance to uncover
Granada’s magnificent Alhambra Palace.
After four unforgettable days of Andalusian
discovery Black Watch will call into Portugal’s
elegant capital en route back to the UK. Round
off your holiday with another day packed with sights
and experiences. Lisbon offers plenty of architectural
wonders and maritime history to uncover, as well as
delightful egg custard tarts to savour. Alternatively,
you can visit the pretty towns of Óbidos or Sintra.
