RUGGED & REMOTE
15 nights | 22nd June 2022 | From Newcastle | Cruise Code L2217
Departing from the northeast means you’ll be exploring
Norway in no time at all. This 15-night cruise has been
designed to take in some of Norway’s most rugged and
remote destinations, as well as crossing the Arctic Circle
to experience the eerie Midnight Sun.
Balmoral’s smaller scale means you can get even closer to nature’s
highlights as you sail along Norway’s west coast and up to the island
of Spitsbergen. Being able to get close to the country’s natural
wonders, including sailing past glaciers and down narrow fjords,
simply isn’t possible on some of the larger ships.
You will call at Olden, Måloy and Honningsvåg, before making
your way to Svalbard. Here, you will visit Longyearbyen, one of
the world’s most northerly settlements, and Pyramiden, which is
said to be home to just six people. The former Russian coal mining
settlement can only be reached by boat in summertime, so this is a
rare opportunity to discover life in this remote corner of the world.
En route back to Newcastle, you’ll stop at Tromsø, the ‘capital of
the north’, and Åndalsnes, where there’s an opportunity to see
natural wonders via the Rauma Railway. And there’ll be a chance to
witness the impressive Black Glacier, Torghatten and Seven Sisters
mountain range from on board your smaller ship.
In addition to visiting some fantastic destinations, this cruise has
been specially designed to be within the Arctic Circle during the
Midnight Sun phenomenon, when the sun does not set at night.
